100302 Transit 1

this 90 min. set is a live recording of a jam session of Dr. Nojoke, Substance G, Erased Bodies and myself, made couple of weeks ago. this ensemble has a very unique pace. like all good things, we too came to meet each other accidently, performed twice in the one year of our existence and almost every time we meet to play together something magical happens in the room, that encourages us to just allow that project to roll on without setting concepts, guidelines or other definitions. we have so far pretty much, just played.

“Transit Audio” is the most we managed to discuss, for a band name. so take it as a working title.

in the premise of this set there’s a rather simple technical idea, to create an instrument with one oscillator, filter and FX’s, that “sequences” solely by 3 LFO’s. no keyboard attached. while working on it, a second oscillator joined and one basic step sequencer for more rhythmical action.

i used the Ampere Modular macros made by Chet Singer in the Reaktor User Library. An amazing work, inspired by the Nord Modular virtual analog system.

all the sounds in this session created by the different versions of this instrument and mixed down in Ableton Live.

p.s.
for reaktor users, the ensemble (wt “elef-oh”) is not yet ready to be published in the user library, but those who like to give it a test drive can send me a note.

things went lalala lately. the summer. the light. also, as the Jam goes public, it loses much of the roughness around its edges. so it’s just possible that ‘reconn’, a nervous drone, dynamic and very loud, is a one step back to abstract basics.

i realize how un-sexy it is to tell the world how you technically make your art. so i try to do it without really doing it. because writing a little poem alongside the music can be even more pathetic.

i want to say that Kore2 is the best hands-on interface i came across until now. as soon as it’s wired to my favorite instruments, it’s just a dream to perform.

have i mentioned – it does get loud.

what’s up

what is up.
we had a successful, public manifestation of the Jam, and another one coming up this thursday >>

and in between i got lost in a struggle between Live8 and Reaktor. they havent both quite behaved with each other. not sure why. nobody’s sure why. but i wasn’t yet ready to give up, before trying the so called “super host” aka Kore2.. now this baby rocks. it does exactly what i needed it for, and that is to host Reaktor the best way possible. mapping ensembles to the depth. all controllers in a neat and tidy live set up. morphing sounds, saving presets on banks and accessing it through program change… heaven. all this mass can be afterwards be hosted as a plugin in Live for sequencing.

results, soon on the internets near you.

yo! another day another upload. you sure didn’t expect that to happen.

i pushed record while giving this new setup a first test drive. mingling on with Terminal Glitch and yet another new resident in the bottomless reaktor library: cirklz, sonictwist’s beautiful granular delay. more of the oriental sound and microtuning experimentations.

not too many hooks, in this agressive session. just plain knob-ride the good old acid way.

excited by the Open Jam on thursday. make sure you’re paying us a visit if living in the area!

long time. in which i have managed to start a band, seeing it breaking apart, having my website wiped out from the server.. and all the way back, as you see, i’m alive and posting.
this one called CaptainZorna after the sound that comes around the 3rd min. that sounded like Zorna (Kurdish instrument?) to me. plus, a little tribute to plastikman, those who know, know :) it’s all made with multiple instances of this genius piece of work: “Terminal Glitch”, a reaktor ensemble by Dean Lowe.
